Genre :
Rock
Tell us a bit about your songs, is there any one you consider your favorite?
I think "Victim of Love" is my favourite song overall.I've been doing a few collabs with other artists and a few covers lately. As my production skills get better, I will be improving the quality of all of my songs.
Who were some of the people who have influenced you?
Elton John, Jann Arden, Ray Charles, Joni Mitchell, Mama Cass Elliott, Ann Murray, Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Judy Collins, Joan Baez, Donovan, The Eagles, CCR, The Band - quite an eclectic mix!
How would you describe your music?
I started out in the bluesy vein, but there is often a bit of jazz, rock, folk even funk mixed in.
Is there one particular song that best sums up "who you are" as an artist?
Probably "The Long Road", although I have not reached the end of my particular road yet.
How long have you been in the music business?
I was in the music business in a very small way over 36 years ago, singing in a small cover band. Growing up I was always singing in school, church, functions, rec centres, coffee houses.
What sort of feedback have you received from the public?
I only really "came out" with my songs in July 2007 when I joined a few artist sites such as this one. My songs have been extremely well received, I would say. Some of my songs have reached #1 in their particular genre and some have reached #1 overall on the smaller sites. Recently, one of the smaller sites featured three of my songs on their compilation CD, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Childrens Miracle Network.
What can we expect from you in 2008 and beyond?
Hopefully, more original songs. I am at a bit of a standstill right now because I am trying to improve my production skills, which, quite frankly, suck! I did write "Victim of Love" when I thought I was at a standstill as well, however, so really anything can happen! It just depends on my mood, observations of life and what's going on around me. My prime songwriting time is actually 4 a.m.!
Does the world around us influence your music at all?
Yes, at least for "Mayhem 2001", which is about September 11, 2001. I walked around with this song in my heart for years and I only committed to writing and recording it about 3 months ago. I think the simplicity and honesty of my song does justice to the horror of that day and sets out the hopes of all for a better future.
How much has the internet helped spread the word about your music?
Very, very much. If my songs were not on line, I would still be sitting here waiting to hear back from the three publishers I sent my promo CDs to!
Anything you'd like to blast out to the fans?
If you like my songs, please send me a message or an e-mail and simply let me know. You would not believe how encouraging that is to an artist! Most people who listen to indie music don't usually think to do that. The artists appreciate a simple message so much. Thanks!
